Are You Leveraging Linked In?

Are you on LinkedIn yet? I’ve been on it for several years. At first it was not very useful to me. This year though, things have changed. I’m connecting with more and more people and becoming involved with more groups and answering questions on LinkedIn. It’s one of the big three social media tools that I use. The other two are Twitter and Facebook.

5 Tips for Getting More from LinkedIn“.

I have been doing several of the things John recommends, but not all. Here’s a summary of John’s top 5:

  1. get a branded URL and put links in your profile

  2. recommend other professionals with testimonials

  3. answer questions to demonstrate your expertise

  4. build your network by leading a niched group

  5. use some of the 3rd party applications to call in your content, such as your tweets and blog posts

Take Your Business Brand Online

We had a great call last night on Internet Branding with Ponn Sabra of EmpowerWomenNow.com.  Ponn walked us through 5 ways we can brand our business online using articles, a blog, joint venture partnerships, online press releases, and social media and online networking sites.

We looked at an Online Identity Calculator to determine where our online identity stands right now. You can read Ponn’s post here about Defining You Brand as a Small Business Owner.

Having a strong online brand means you are widely recognized throughout the internet. Ponn’s definition of an Internet Brand is taking your Personal Brand online and strategically creating a community around you.

I love that part of it, that it’s about community and connection.  For me that’s what’s been missing in my online marketing – it’s just been a one-way communication up until now.

To take it to the next level and harness the power of Web 2.0, I am going to explore submitting an online press release about my new community for women entrepreneurs  and creating a profile at Linked In and Facebook. The best part about many of these internet strategies is that many are free or very low cost.

Anita Campbell over at Small Business Trends interviewed Sam Harrelson on future trends in internet marketing. His advice for marketing successfully online: develop your brand, micro-niche your business, and create your own community.

That would be my advice too, and I would add 3 additional steps to create a very profitable small business: develop a marketing funnel strategy, a keep-in-touch strategy, such as an ezine or blog, and reach out to partners to help you grow your business more quickly and effectively.
