Clear the Clutter to Attract New Clients

By Jan Marie Dore

I hope you had as wonderful a holiday season as I did. I had lots of family time, parties, movies, lunches and great conversations. But, the one thing I always like about holiday time is having some down time; some quiet time to myself to think and dream and reflect on how I want year ahead to be.

Something I did last week that I do several times each year is to clear the clutter to make way for new. I do this whenever I want to attract new clients or create a new program.

One weekend, I cleared files and clutter in my office and created space for new clients, and by Wednesday I had three new clients without actively doing any marketing. The work you do internally is reflected externally in your results.
(<== This is not my office!)

I give this as an assignment to new coaching clients when I start working with them. You'd be amazed at how your energy changes and what new opportunities - and new clients - can show up when you get rid of the old and create space for the new.

Here's what I did that you can do too to make space for new clients and new opportunities to show up:

  1. Choose an area of your home or your office that feels cluttered or that drains your energy when you think about it. Choose a closet or a cupboard or a drawer or some file folders or computer files to clear. Start with something small. Clearing a whole room can feel overwhelming to start, so keep it simple.

  2. Set aside some time to let go of anything that no longer serves you – especially information in files or on your computer that is beyond being useful. You know what that is. Be ruthless in letting go of anything that is no longer useful or beautiful. As one of my former teachers used to say, “Let go of anything that’s not on fire”.
  3. “The only way to find the path is to set fire to your life.” ~ Oriah Mountain Dreamer

  4. Let your intuition guide you in making quick, effective decisions. Use the power of your intention as you are clearing to do a really thorough job in a short time. I like to set a timer when I do this so I’m efficient with my time and I don’t linger over things.

Then, wait for the magic to happen!

I invite you to post your thoughts and comments below.

Wishing you much joy and prosperity in 2010,
Jan
