Thanks Jan for putting these ideas out there. For several years I was running myself ragged doing one-on-one in-home trainings for yoga and Pilates based fitness trainings. While I loved doing it, I was not able to be home with my child and was very limited what income I could bring in. I am now in the process of developing a new system to share a more integrated approach to health, fitness, and weight loss. Flexible scheduling for everyone, time-saving techniques, and a lot more value. I love it! Can't wait to get it out there and share with other busy women! Have a healthy, happy day!

Hi Jan Marie,
I really like the message of connecting vs. selling. I've never been very good at the hard-sell and I just don't want to do it. I am of the mindset that the right people will be attracted to me. I just need to get the word out.

Nice, clear article. I like how you added the checklist at the end. People love steps and checklists, and I think this will be helpful for people to implement changes to their process.

I would like to add another mistake that I find people make. Too often you go to a website, you like what you see and want more, but you have no easy way to contact the person.

Make sure that your contact information is easy to find. There should be a clear link to it from every page in case a visitor decides to contact you to purchase a product or service they don't see listed on your site.

Hi Oma,
I like your idea of fear being a caution signal saying proceed with extra care, rather than saying stop. That's an important distinction.

Hi Jan Marie,

Thanks for this post. I have felt the same way for a while now
and it can be quite frightening to step up! The fear of leaving our comfort zones can hold us back if we let it.
But I like to think that what I feel isn't fear, just a caution signal that goes off when I'm entering uncharted waters! It isn't saying, "Stop and run away!" It's saying, "Proceed with extra care!"

So, like you I have a list of things to do, and areas to seek support. I especially like the one about doing your most important tasks first. It can make the day feel worthwhile!
And to Lana, may I suggest, can you take a weekend, or two days off and do some goal-setting and planning? A time-out might help you get back on track.

Love and blessings,

Oma Edoja

Jan Marie,

Thanks for the tips. My main problem is not making a definite schedule to sit down and do the top priority task that will make the most difference in my business.

Hi Rhonda,
That's great that you're having such success! I don't know of a Victorian B& B type location in Toronto - but it sounds like a great idea. Do you do any speaking to attract people to your workshops? That would be good to do in Toronto to attract people who live there.

For marketing purposes, you might also create a CD or booklet sharing your ideas that you could give to people or sell for a low price so they get a taste of what you offer.

I hope that helps!

Hi Jan, I have a question for you ...I met you at AWD earlier this Spring. If you remember, I facilitate 2-day Heal Your Life workshops (based on the philophies of Louise Hay) at a beautiful retreat in cottage country. We have had a lot of success, 100% positive feedback and are having another one coming up on Oct 23/24 and Nov 13/14.

Based on this success, what would you recommend with regard to branching out? I have been thinking of offering the course in Toronto and have starting looking for a venue there. do you have any idea where is a lovely, safe, unique venue (preferably Victorian B&B kinda thing with a touch of nature) ... close to downtown TO and subway line ... that can accommodate 10-12 people for a private workshop? Any ideas?

Or what other ideas would you recommend for me as I explore expansion opportunities?

Thanx in advance, Jan!

Definitely do audio Joette. You can sell the CDs. Video is more costly, but it connects with people better than audio - almost like you're right there with them. Some commercial video companies charge a lot. It's worth it if you know you can sell the DVDs. If you just go with audio for now, you could create your own online course with video using simple equipment.

i'll be teaching how to use homeopathy at home in a 6 hour lecture next month to about 50 . i t will be audio recorded as partial payment for my work and it's been offered that i can have it videoed for an additional cost. since i'[m one of many speakers over a 3 day conference, i'll be one of several who will be packaged and sold in an audio package. i can certainly sell my audio separately as well as perhaps a video. i'm still contemplating the merit of doing both since the cost of the video may be quite costly.
any experienced input is welcome. thank you
