Lots Of Ideas And No Priorities
ByA common theme that’s coming up for my clients this week is having lots of ideas and no priorities. Too many ideas, so little time! Often we have competing ideas or goals. Many times, we have conflicting intentions which tend to cancel each other out – for example, wanting to have more business while also wanting more free time. The effect is that nothing happens, and we can’t decide which one to choose. There’s often a feeling of overwhelm and confusion when we’re in this place.
Here’s a quick exercise I recommend:
Take out a sheet of paper – write down all your ideas to get them out of your head.
Then, take another sheet of paper and in the center write your most meaningful objective that you want to accomplish this month. Then, in ‘Mind Map’ fashion, write other goals around this main priority. Try to limit to no more than ten.
Do this every month to re-prioritize your objectives and to-dos, and get clear on your goals and what’s most important to you to accomplish. Focus your mind to make clear choices, prioritize, and get into action.
What kind of structure do you need to stay focused on your vision and start thinking bigger?
