Marketing Audit
ByThe Small Business Marketing Audit
A regular audit of your small business marketing strategy will help you be more focused and productive in your marketing efforts, and keep you one step ahead of your competition. Successful service business owners develop a ‘rhythm of planning’ to strategically plan for their business growth at regular intervals. Now is a good time to dust off your marketing plan for a review and update for the next quarter.
The aim of marketing is to attract enough potential clients with a product or service that meets their needs so well that you don’t have to sell them on it. If your small business marketing system is doing a good job, you can be continually attracting new business without continuing effort.
The Small Business Marketing Audit will help you to be well positioned to attract new clients. To create a marketing strategy that works, you first need to set aside some time to reflect on your answers to the following questions:
- Why am I in business?
- What business am I really in?
- What kind of image do I want to project?
- Who are my best clients?
- Where are my best clients? What industries are they in?
- What benefits do I offer my clients?
- Why do they buy from me?
- What is my unique position that gives me an advantage in the marketplace?
- What are the best methods for me to connect with my ideal clients?
- Who is my competition, and how do I compare?
- Are my products and services priced well to attract new business?
- Where can I diversify? What should my business be?
- What will my industry look like in three years?
- What can I do now to prepare for this change?
You can create a simple one page marketing plan by answering the 5W’s and 1H: Who? Why? What? When? Where? and How?
Once you have answered these questions, you will be well on your way to identifying ways to attract new business.
