Rich Schefren: Why Everyone Struggles More Than They Should

By Jan Marie Dore

Rich Schefren made an insightful post at his blog on why business owners struggle when they don’t have to. He says if you want to continually improve your performance, you need to leverage your past experience for all it’s worth. Reflect on your past results and behaviours to make course corrections for the future.

To make the best of 2008, do a review of 2007 to see what worked and what didn’t work. You can learn from both your successes and failures.

Most business owners don’t do this type of review, and so don’t do things any differently and wonder why they keep getting the same results.

Here are my variations to Rich’s questions:

Q: What were your greatest accomplishments in 2007?

Q: What were your biggest challenges of 2007, and how did you overcome them?

Q: Where did you hold yourself back last year or play smaller than you could have?

Q: What was your biggest learning or insight last year and how are you implementing what you learned?

Q: What did you not do that you wish you would have done?

Q: How can you use this information to make 2008 your best year ever?

What ideas did these questions spark for you when you answered them?

Wishing you much success in 2008!

Jan Marie

What a wonderful way to start the year…by counting your accomplishments and blessings. I think I’ll ask my membership of mediators to do just the same.

    Thanks!
