The Law of Attraction and Servant Leadership
ByI attended Sonia Ricotti’s “Live Life Out Loud” workshop last week in Toronto. Sonia is the President of Lead Our Loud and the author of a new book on The Law of Attraction. (Read my review of Sonia’s book “The Law of Attraction Plain & Simple” here).
The two biggest insights for me personally from this weekend were getting in touch with and letting go of what has been blocking me from the real financial success I know I am capable of.
The other insight was that a new value emerged that I have not been aware of before for myself, but that makes perfect sense to who I have been all my life – Servant Leadership.
Robert Greenleaf is recognized as the father of servant leadership. He describes servant leadership in this way in “The Servant as Leader”:
“The servant-leader is servant first. Becoming a servant-leader begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead. . . . The best test is this: Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants?”
Larry Spears, CEO of the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership identified ten characteristics which describe the essence of a servant leader:
listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of others, and building community.
My pattern has always been to lead by example, to inspire, encourage and empower people who work for me, and to look at a situation and see what is missing or what needs doing – and to do that. I look for my place by seeing patterns in the big picture, and then intuitively seeing exactly what I could contribute to the whole or the greater good.
What about you? Are you clear on your core values? The things that are most important to you to live a meaningful life? Have you thought about servant leadership – who you’re meant to serve and what gifts and talents you will use to serve others?
